In The President Who Never Was, Olga Lucía González (PhD in Sociology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris) examines the trajectory and legacy of a politician historically marginalized from Colombia’s official narrative: Gabriel Turbay. Through a reconstruction of his political career, the book analyzes the perspectives and omissions that have shaped the national historiography of the Liberal Republic period and the exaltation of the caudillo figure of Jorge Eliécer Gaitán. Likewise, this work underscores the importance of historiographical critique as a tool for strengthening democratic culture.
