Argentinean shoe industry under the first and second governments of Juan Domingo Peron (1946-1955)
Keywords:
Shoe industry, peronism, Foreign Commerce - ArgentinaAbstract
In this article we study how the shoe industry was affected by the first and second peronist government`s economic policies. We focus our analysis on three aspects: machinery supplies, foreign trade, and credit policy. It is important to highlight that the shoe industry had initiated an export process at the beginning of the first peronist government that soon came to an end. We have analyzed different documents, commercial balances, enterprises publications, and official sources. We consider that this study helps understand both: the compromises and agreements as well as the conflicts between the industry and the peronist government. It also contributes to shed some light on the possibilities and limits of the Latin American countries to develop an export industry in the context of the Second World War.
