Abstract

In this paper it is verified how death and labor supply affect human capital in the Bolivar department during the 2002 – 2009 period. For the development of this study we used data collected by Colombia's National Bureau of Statistics and the Ministry of National Education. Initially, the characterization and analysis of the study variables is performed and then an econometric exercise is developed using the fixed effect method with heteroscedasticity correction for a panel data model. It was found that for the 45 municipalities of the department, the deaths and the labor supply affect the generation of human capital when it is measured with students enrolled in basic primary education. The findings of previous studies areconfirmed for other areas and other years: "in adulthood excess mortality alters the formation of human capital in society".
