The efficiency wages in the Urabá banana sector — Colombia
Keywords:
efficiency wages, minimum wage, unions and productivityAbstract
This article presents the existence of Efficiency Wages (SE) in the banana sector of Urabá (Colombia), considering that according to the literature, in rural areas this type of salaries are almost nonexistent. The proposed model builds on what has been developed by Shapiro—Stiglitz, Bulkley, Myles and others on SE theory. A pilot test was conducted, where primary information was collected through a survey of workers in the sector, followed by a Probit model, allowing the analysis of the impact of each worker's productivity on perceived wages, as well as other variables characteristic of the sector such as is unionization.
