Patented knowledge and economic indicators: the case of Mexican aerospace industry

Abstract

This paper analyzes the degree of inventiveness in the aeronautics sector in Mexico, measured by the number of patents (applied for and granted) in both Mexico and the United States. In addition dynamic efficiency indicators such as productivity of the sector, exports and type of goods produced according to its location in the aviation value chain. This sector is considered strategic by the spillovers of knowledge for development of Mexican suppliers, dissemination of know—how, and to push the creation of new frontiers in the field of science and technology.
