Abstract

Recently, the idea of subjective wellbeing measures for public purposes has taken hold. In this study we show the results of two different measures in the Metropolitan Area of Barranquilla, Colombia. The linkage between subjective well-being and individual, household and environmental characteristics is studied. The concept of wellbeing, is studied in relation with the concept of happiness and from these the normative elements that characterizes it. It is also discussed the pertinence of these measures in the design of public policies of local governments. There is emphasis on the importance of make explicit the criterium of wellbeing used and its normative features.
