Estimation of a consumption function for the cuban economy during the period 1975-2012

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to estimate a household consumption function for the Cuban economy during the period 1975-2012. For this purpose, a time series is analized using the econometric software Eviews. All the information was obtain from the National Office of Statistics in Cuba. The main results indicate that the Keynesian theory is the more suitable to explain the consumption behavior in the Cuban economy. The Gross domestic Product and the Other Income variable explain the agents decision regarding consumption. According with the assumptions about the exogenous variables of the model, the household consumption is supposed to show an average growing rate of 5.4%, during the period between 2013 and 2020.

Leandro José López Elías, Profeso de la Universidad de La Habana. Cuba

Nací el 25 de Septiembre de 1988 en La Habana, Cuba. Cursé mis estudios primarios en la escuela Amistad Cuba – Angola. Los estudios secundarios los cursé en la ESBU Juventud Heroica. Finalizando el 9no grado me integré a la organización de Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas (UJC). Los estudios Preuniversitarios los comencé en el año 2003 en el Instituto Pre-universitario de Ciencias Exactas Vladimir Ilich Lenin.

En el año 2007 comencé mis estudios Universitarios en La Facultad de Economía de la Universidad de La Habana. Durante los 5 años de carrera mantuve una activa participación en la esfera de investigación. Obtuve el premio Relevante y Gran Premio en el Fórum de la Universidad de la Habana en 4to año de la carrera y el premio de Destacado y Mayor Aporte económico en el mismo evento en 5to año. Adicionalmente en el propio 5to año obtuve el premio de Destacado en el Fórum Nacional de estudiante desarrollado en Villa Clara. Culminé mis estudios universitarios graduándome con título de oro y fui seleccionado el estudiante más integral en la esfera de investigación así como el estudiante más integral de la graduación 2011-2012.

El servicio Social lo desarrollé como profesor en la Facultad de Economía de La Universidad de la Habana. Me integré a los proyectos de Investigación de Crecimiento Económico y de Capital Humano y Crecimiento Económico, como apoyo a la comisión de Implementación de los Lineamientos. En el año 2013 comencé a cursar la maestría en Economía en la cual ya tengo vencidos todos los créditos del componente curricular.
