La cultura como estrategia de adaptación en la interacción sujeto social – ambiente
Keywords:
environment interaction, culture as adaptation, successful adaptationAbstract
Culture as an adaptive strategy in the social subject- environment interactions supposes some important aspects, as the following: a. The social subject has some levels of complexity in his/her organization; b. the environment has different complexity scales; c. Each level in each element interacts with each level of the other in a simultaneous and reciprocal way; d. The interaction is mediated by processes of different dimensions: Psycho-social and cultural. By recognizing the role of cognitive processes, cultural ones are emphasized as a successful adaptation mechanism in some cases, and not successful in others. The concept of successful adaptation is defined and examples of its application in six cases at Latin American level are shown. The necessity of ethics in such interaction can be implicitly inferred and so, the convenience of assuming it as an “indicator” of a civilized and civilizer development as opposed to the dominant ethics of western society (civilization).
