La extensión universitaria: función integradora del quehacer universitario en el presente siglo.

For the Higher Education Institutions to achieve their goals of contributing to the development and obtain the academic excellence, they must adequately integrate their three basic functions: teaching, research and universitary extension; and, at the same time, they must take into account a related to society and culture problem: the need of improving people's cultural development. Preserving and developing culture are a need of society and constitute the social duty of university. This function is basically accomplished through universitary extension. In this article some of the causes of drawbacks for the development of Community Education are mentioned. as well as some other principles, which should characterize it. In the same way, some of its general functions and more significant objectives are established.
