Abstract

The canines can be found in a heterotopic situation; nostrils, maxillary sinus, symphysis mentalis, or ectopically close to their normal seat, but in different positions. The most frequent is that its axis is oblique towards the mesial, generally palatal or vestibular in the case of the lower ones, and relatively frequently bilateral. The symptomatology is null in the inclusion and the tooth is diagnosed by other facts or there is a clinical appearance in the case of interlocking. The orthosurgical approach of retained canines has evolved in recent decades, with the inclusion of absolute anchorage devices (mini-implants), orthosurgical treatment plans have seen the need to modify surgical techniques, the objective is to carry out canine traction with the VISTA technique, and properly position it in the arch. Previously, different techniques were carried out, at the vestibular level, flaps were made with apical repositioning or techniques that were not recommended, such as mucosal fenestration because this could cause periodontal problems, on the other hand, at the palatal level, the discovery of the included canines was carried out by means of a flap. mucoperiosteal (surgical window technique), in which a conductive alveolotomy is performed. For all these reasons, it must be taken into account that fixed orthodontic appliances provide an alternative that avoids the extraction of retained dental organs, through minimally invasive surgical techniques, which allow the canines to be kept in the dental arch and therefore to the harmony of dental arches.
