Abstract

This paper intends a hermeneutical approach of the Minotaur myth and its labyrinth using as Reading code a classification of space / content which appears in the two core images of a hidden – mysterious dwell and its also strange and feared inhabitant. Four universal aspects of human existence can be read upon using this binary taxon: mind (the unconscious), cognition and its objects, being as an instance of selfhood, and power with all its objects. All of which appear in a metaphorical relation with the code’s two operating elements: labyrinth (a bordering space between the visible – apparent, known, controlled – and the invisible – hidden, unknown, subject to other “rules”), and the Minotaur (as a content of the “labyrinthical”spatiality of conscience, knowledge, being and power).
