Abstract

Ernst Tugendhat´s works about mystic are accompanied by a series of references to the esthetic experience. Given these references, and given as well the importance it can be attributed to them in Tugendhat´s purpose of clarifying the sense of the mystic, in this paper I explore the possibility of giving an affirmative answer to the following question: can the aesthetic experience include some of the features attributed to the mystic experience? The starting point in the accomplishment of my purpose is to attend to Tugendhat´s reflections on the term astonishment in the context of the mystic experience. I Then give the reasons which, according to Tugendhat, and against Wittgenstein, can make us think that an utterance like “¡how astonishing it is that the world exists!, has indeed a sense. I conclude showing to what extent she, who, with this kind of utterances affirms the beauty of the world, not only expresses the emotion of astonishment; she also expresses a disposition to assume a mystic attitude.
