Abstract

This paper analyses the contrast between the Traditional Historical Novel and the New Historical Novel in the Colombian context of the second half of the XX century with reference to the representation of the national past and specifically referring to the estimation of the other as far as time and space in the past is concerned. I will argue that Colombian writers of the New Historical Novel mark the presence of the other, who is culturally different from the republican elite, the main subject, and thus these works become the cultural background of the Political Constitution of 1991 that recognizes the multicultural situation of the Colombian nation.
