This article seeks to contribute to the knowledge of the Critical Realism Theory in social sciences within the Latin-American academic field. Making a revision over the approaches of Positivism and Hermeneutics and the concepts of Paradigm and the Scientific Practice, the author allows us to understand the main characteristics of the investigation methodologies in social sciences and the opportunities and advantages that the ‘new vision’ of the Critical Realism can give to those interested on building scientific knowledge, recognizing the preceding contributions, its present mistakes and future challenges.
