Technology and society in the city of Neiva (Colombia): a quantitative study
Abstract
This research presents the results of a quantitative study on the use, advantages, disadvantages, and impacts of using devices with internet access in the city of Neiva (Colombia). Quantitative methodology was applied with descriptive statistics model and
simple stratified sampling in the city of Neiva. The advantages, disadvantages, and changes or impacts were presented for the assessment of the respondents in qualitative scales that emerged in the research from authors such as Brubaker (2020), Castells (2008, 2009), Chiodo (2021), Han (2020), Schwab (2016), World Economic Forum (2020). The results show that the population has the ability to acquire devices and the Internet, used to access education, business, family life, and exchange of goods and services mainly; utility in new social
interactions and in political interaction is low. It is concluded that the city has a social and public problem that implies public policies in terms of education, regulation, and security in the use of devices with internet access.
