In this article, preoccupation is shown as a central problem in mental health. It is deduced that probably it is one of the reasons of the underdevelopment of our countries because there exists the cultural influence that inculcates the association between responsibility andconcern.It concludes that although preoccupation has normal and adaptation functions (the alarm before eventual threatens which serves as an anticipation of survival strategies), staying in it is pathological because suffering and immobility are generated.For this reason, the importance of working on the patient by using the cognitive therapy is highlighted. This therapy has shown to be prepared to face preoccupation –that «our days malady».Key words: Preoccupation, cognition therapy, adaptation.
