Abstract

With the beginning of the third millennium, it becomes evident the strategic importance of knowledge and the ability to produce and use it as a means to improve people's quality of life. This factor has brought about a science/society contract, exemplified by the relationship between investigative universities, as responsible of producing knowledge, and the State, as a representative of society. This article presents a new research alrernative, a transdisciplinary modality that, in the context of the science/ society contract, assigns a greater participation of community as the main beneficiary agent. Particularly, the article describes "Community Children Homes" program which deals with problems of childhood from the perspective of te new research modality.
