Psychosocial Variables Associated With A Grade Of Acceptance Sexual Orientation Straight No
Abstract
The degree of acceptance of non-heterosexual sexual orientation and its association with some psycho-social variables was analyzed from a group of young people from Bogotá, Colombia. Data from a convenience sample of 88 non-heterosexual young people (60 men and 28 women) between 18 and 25 years of age, from local stratification 3. 4, 5 and 6 were analyzed. A self-report questionnaire was designed for this study. It was found that the degree of acceptance of the sexual orientation can be predicted from internalized homophobia. Results confirm the findings of previous studies that postulate a significant positive association of the degree of acceptance of the non-heterosexual orientation with self-esteem and perception of social support.
