An alternative approach to the traditional theory of conflict

This paper is the result of the intentional application of one thinking strategy suggested by experts on creativity: Defining and redefining a problem from many points of view and approaches in order to find new ways of understanding it. In this case, the strategy is applied to the traditional theory of conflict. We state that conflict is neither the result of a shock nor of differences, but the overlapping of vital fields of the parties. The effect of this is to change, modify, deviate or frustrate its action or the achievement of objectives of one or both of the parties. So, the conflict is seen as a set of the interaction of various components: the parties; the sense the conflict has for each one of them; the argument or the triggering event; and the context in which the events occur. On the other hand, it is claimed that conflicts are not solved. They are actually transformed or dissolved. That is to say, the conflict is dynamic and makes part of the day - to day relationships. At the end, some suggestions for approaching the problem and identifying the elements are established.
