Correlational design. BITE was applied to measure bulimic symptoms and the ACS to identify coping strategies.Results. We identified that 59% of 278 participants has not altered behaviors about food and 41% have symptoms of bulimia. Correlations were identified between the severity with socioeconomic stratum. We found positive correlations between symptoms of bulimia and self-incrimination and search strategies for spiritual support. We also found positive correlation between gravity and search strategies for spiritual support and physical distraction. Conclusion: The results are consistent with previous studies on the subject since the strategies that relate to the severity of symptoms and Bulimia are avoidant and emotion-focused. Finally, we illustrate the need for more studies comparing clinical and nonclinical samples.
