Relations between ambivalent sexism, political conservatism and cognitive rigidity in a sample population of the city of Lima.
Abstract
This study analyzes the relationship between political conservatism, cognitive rigidity and ambivalent sexism in a sample of young adults in the city of Lima (N = 279). To evaluate measures of political conservatism right-wing authoritarianism (RWA), social dominance orientation (SDO) and justification of inequality were used. Cognitive rigidity was evaluated through ambiguity intolerance, intolerance of uncertainty, need for cognitive closure and openness to experience. A translated to Castilian Stock ambivalent sexism version was used. A direct relationship between political conservatism, cognitive rigidity, hostile sexism and benevolent sexism was found. A linear regression analysis showed that the RWA, SDO and intolerance of ambiguity direct influence on hostile sexism, benevolent sexism while receiving the direct influence of RWA and the justification of inequality. Men scored higher on hostile sexism, while women did so in one of the three dimensions of benevolent sexism.Downloads
