Resilience, illness perception, beliefs and spiritualreligious coping and health-related quality of life in patients with rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis

The purpose of this research was to evaluate the relationship between resilience, illness perception, beliefs and spiritual-religious coping on health-related quality of life in 41 patients with a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis from the city of Medellín (Colombia). The Instruments used were Resilience Scale RS, The Spiritual Coping Strategies Scale SCS, System of Belief Inventory SBI-15R, Illness Perception Questionnaire IPQ-B, medical outcomes study short form 36 items MOS SF-36. The results showed negative relationships of cognitive and emotional representation of the IPQ-B disease with physical and mental quality of life and non-religious coping strategies (SCS) were positively associated with the quality of mental life. In linear regression analysis the disease consequences IPQ-B and pharmacological treatment had a negative weight on the quality of life physically, while acceptance of self and life (RS) and socioeconomic stratum had positive effects on mental health. In conclusion the perception of the quality of life of patients with RA is mediated by disease representations and salutogenic factors as transcendental type coping and resilience.Downloads
