Football gangs, drug consumption and violence

Based on a descriptive and analytical research carried out under a qualitativemethodological design the co-ocurrence of the consumptionof psychoactive substances and aggressive and violent behaviors inthe members of some of the football supporting groups of the city ofMedellin, Colombia were described and analyzsed. Using the participantobservation technique we were able to show that drug use, togetherwith the identification, suggestion and social contagion phenomena,promote the disturbance of consciousness and the temporary abolitionof patterns of thought and behavior typical of individuals, as well asthe moral and ethical precepts regulating action in society. This explainswhy the individuals of the mass (football supporter groups) becomereckless, impulsive, angry, and violent from the scope of social psychology,psychoanalysis and Ethology.Published
