Abstract

The contemporary construct about “quality of life” involves the analysis of material resourcesand subjective well being, the assessing the welfare or satisfaction of citizens is a nationaland international priority, mainly is important on populations with important functions insociety. In this study, quality of life was assessed in a population of 473 students that werebeing training to teach in metropolitan area of Monterrey. A tests with four scales that integratesobjective and subjective components of quality of life was used, and this test wasadjusted by Arita (2005, 2006) and Tánori (2011). This population is very important becausehistorically have had a job stability with support of union membership. We found that thereare differences as to whether student teachers have a family that exercises the profession ofteaching; other relevant variables were the number of family members and the amount ofhousehold goods. Particularly the subjective component is the best to explain the quality oflife of teachers. We concluded that reformist policies on education may change teachers’perception before and after the reform.Keywords: quality of life, labor union, teachers, reform, basic education.
