Personal characteristics and social values of urban population related to social participation

Abstract

The aim of this work was identify personal characteristics (ontosystem) and values (macrosystem)which are related with social participation. A sample of 113 inhabitants of a northeast city of Mexico was studied using a survey. It was used structural equations for identifyinga social participation model integrated by personal characteristics factor (ontosystem) withpositive self-concept, negative self-concept and positive self-esteem, the values factor (macrosystem)with sociality, responsibility and justice-equality values and social participationfactor was integrated with the variables called social organization, communities actions andmaking decisions. The model found matches with theoretical model. Accordingly personalcharacteristics factor (ontosystem) and values factor (macrosystem) explain ten percent ofsocial participation factor´s variance. This study show personal characteristics factor (ontosystem)and values factor (macrosystem) influence social participation factor.

Dra. Ana Lilia Banda Castro forma parte del personal académico de la Universidad de Sonora, como profesora-investigadora. Ha obtenido el grado de doctora en ciencias sociales. Realiza investigación en calidad de vida, participación social, desarrollo humano, sistemas de control y gobernanza. Dr. Miguel Arturo Morales Zamorano sustenta grado de doctor en Ciencias Administrativas, es profesor en la Universidad de Sonora, Consejero Directivo de INPAE, trabajando en las líneas: Calidad de Vida, Participación Ciudadana, Sistemas de Control, Gobernanza y Anticorrupción. Con más de 50 publicaciones en revistas y congresos internacionales y nacionales. Control ciudadano de instituciones en gobiernos abiertos. Autor de 2 libros sobre Sistemas de control y Gobernanza y control ciudadano de sus gobiernos, Coautor de 3 más y autoría de 7 capítulos de libros. Acreedor de varios reconocimientos.
