Abstract

The problem of violence against women is approached, which is considered by the World Health Organization a public health issue in the face of which social and human sciences should give answers in their understanding and intervention in order to eradicate it, as the third Objective of the Millennium proposes. From an analytic case study, eight programs of psychosocial intervention are approached in gender violence (GV) implemented in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia, which comparison permits to establish how they operate, to finallyprovide a series of proposals to be taken into account towards the exercise of intervention in this issue. The results highlight women as the users of these programs, the workshops andtraining as intervention techniques in group formats. The programs are structured towards women and the defense of their rights, the violence from their spouses and families andwomen empowerment.
