Learning and studying strategies of adolescents from Barranquilla

In this paper, some results obrained in a research on learning and study strategies in young people from Barranquilla, carried out in 1996, are shown. The research was a descriptive - comparative one, and it was performed in a group of 270 students (women and men), with ages ranging between ] 4 and 18. The Learning and Study Strategies Inventory, LASSI, was used as the instrument to career data. Regarding to the educational level and to age, no significant differences were found. Some variables, such as time management, anxiery and attention, showed evidences of deficiency and differences related to sex in their levels and tendency. Taking into account self - evaluation, scores did not show a significant development in self - regulation and self - control. Nevertheless, attitude towards study was highly favorable. Comparing private education and official one, the conditions in which the lance occurs are frankly disadvantageous.
