Abstract

Currently, an important parameter of customer satisfaction in HPI is health safety. It is reported annually 134 million of adverse events (AE) due to unsafe attention, which causes large numbers of deaths and increased costs of care.

Objective: The research estimates the incidence of preventable adverse events in the hospitalization services of a Clinic from Sincelejo city in 2021.

Methods: Study of incidence in 360 clinical records of patients admitted to the hospitalization service from January to June of 2021 in a Clinic from Sincelejo city, Colombia. The Screening Guide was applied to search for signs of adverse events (AE); Module A for the identification of AE, contained in the modular form for retrospective review of cases, was applied to patients with positive Screening Guide. Descriptive analysis and evaluation of associations were performed.

Results: 54 signs of AE were obtained, the incidence was of 6.11 % of preventable AE, most of these moderate 54.5 % and severe 31.8 %. The specialty with most incidence was Internal Medicine (45.5 %), followed by surgical specialties 36.4 %; It should be noted that 54.5 % of the events were related to extrinsic risk factors. Conclusions: This is the first study carried out in the institution and it allowed us to identify the incidence of preventable adverse events through the Screening Guide for the retrospective review of medical records, which proved to be a useful profiling tool for this purpose.
