From the Sublime to the Infimous. Cosmo- aesthetics and Aesthetic Feelings
Keywords:

This paper critically addresses the aesthetic concept that, since philosophical modernity has shaped the sentimental relationship of human beings with the so-called Nature, the feeling of the sublime. The aim is to contribute to the delimitation of a working quarry of a cosmo-aesthetics or terrestrial aesthetics, which is conceived as a philosophical discipline concerned with the traditional issues of sensibility and creativity from a more than human (and deandrocentric) perspective and in the horizon opened by the spatio-temporal dislocation known by the names of Gaia and the Anthropocene. The Kantian version of the sublime is especially worked on, since it is there that a touchstone is provided for the sentimental experience of human exceptionality, which implies, of course, the exceptionality of a certain type of human. Consequently, the possibility of thinking of another aesthetic feeling will be pointed out, that of the infimous (gr. bathos, lat. infimus), which, clinging to the closeness proposed by hearing and touch, would provide us with an experience of the slow rhythm of the interconnected flow between the existents of the Earth.
