Abstract

The development and specialization that police structures would have suffered during modernity led to a questioning to its competence for affecting the ways of life of society which reached a peak when this intervention included limiting freedom –both public and private- of citizens. The debate about the police activity on these two points (coercion and freedom) is presented here in the light of the thought of Fichte and Hegel in order to analyse the conditions (and the conditions it imposes) in which police exercises its activity within society.
