Value creation of Colombian companies during the period 2000-2005

Abstract

The present article shows the analysis of the productive value in 60 sectors
of the Colombian economy. The information was taken from the financial and
business analysis database (AFINE). This information was analyzed and filtered
in order to meet the EVA methodology requirements by analyzing the economic
scenery during the length of the study, and by determining the relation between
the economic scenery and the financial performance. Additionally, to use the EVA
as a tool of financial evaluation, we determine the structure of the capital of every
sector, the costs of income sources (Kdt for passive, and Ke for the patrimony), the
cost of the capital, levels of required investment (operational net assets), and the
profitability of the investment. In conclusion and efficiently, all these information
served to calculate the EVA for each sector of the Colombian economy during the
years of 2000 and 2005.
