The objective of this systematic review was to identify the risk and protective factors associated with suicidal ideation and attempts in adolescents and young people in Latin America studies and to evaluate the methodological quality of the studies that were included. The CUIDEN, LILACS, Pubmed, Scielo, Science Direct, SCOPUS, EBSCO and Medline databases were consulted, restricting the results to articles in the last 10 years. 3,642 documents were obtained, of which 19 studies were included. 52.63% (n=10) of the studies obtained a medium internal validity level and 57.89% (n=11) medium global quality level. Family dysfunction and suicide background were the most reported family risk factors, other reported factors were the suicide background, the biological factor, the presence of mental disorder, psychoactive substances consumption, the psychological factor, physical violence, sexual violence and the social factor. On the other hand, the study of protective factors was scarce, the most reported evidence was family functionality and support.
