Abstract

This paper analyzes from the ecology of human development, the contextsin which violence occurs and how the processes of legitimationperpetuate violence over time especially affecting children and futuregenerations. First, it elucidates the differences between aggression andviolence, later to define the process of legitimation from the historicalcontext, the community, family and mass media. Finally it is explainedhow legitimating beliefs are given in infant cognition. It discusses thepsychological bases of legitimation and the mechanisms through whichit operates, including the concept of moral disengagement introducedby Bandura.
