Abstract

The goal of this article is to make a theoretical reflection about political socialization since a gender perspective connected to Carol Gilligan’s ethics of care. The diverse agents of political socialization produce different cues to men and women. Because its private nature, family becomes in a more relevant political socialization agent for women than men, whereas other political socialization agents addressed in the literature (school, peers, mass media) influences specially in the transmission of traditional gender roles. This shows that care values should not be exclusive of women if we want to achieve a real democracy.
