Self-esteem and sexual dysfunction among university students of health-related degrees in Santa Marta (Colombia)

Human beings are integral units, composed of several dimensions; one of these dimensions being sexuality: asocial construction originating in the individual, a process that interprets and assigns cultural meaning to thoughts, to sexual conduct and conditions, and in which the experience that each person has of sexuality is made up of biological, psychological, socioeconomic, cultural, ethical and religious or spiritual factors, among others. By sexual dysfunctions, we include those alterations (essentially inhibitions) that occur in any of the phases of sexual response and which prevent or hinder sexual satisfaction. The present study was carried out using a correlated design, with 311 students from public university. The average age was 20.2 years (age range was 16-31 years); the civil status was as unmarried, 3,9% co-habiting and 2.2% engaged. The results concluded that there is no significant statistical relation between self-esteem and sexual dysfunction.
