Abstract

Objective: To determine if the partial replacement of office chair by a stability ball increases the strength-strength of trunk extensor musculature and static balance, as well as improving the quality of health-related life in adult office workers.

Materials and methods: Pre-post pre-experimental design study without control group. The sample was intentional, of 18 office workers between 25 and 55 years. For 8 weeks a partial and progressive replacement of an office chair was performed by a stability ball during working hours. Pre and post replacement force-resistance was evaluated
Strength of the trunk extensor musculature by means of the Biering Sorensen clinical test, the static balance by means of postural oscillography and the quality of life with the quality of life perception questionnaire related to health SF-36.

Results: Increased muscle strength-resistance (p=0.003) was observed, and a better score in the dimensions physical role (p=0.041), body pain (p=0.017), general health (p=0.027), social function (p=0.017), emotional role (p=0.043) and mental health (p=0.036).

Conclusions: The partial and progressive replacement of the office chair by a balloon for 8 weeks increased the strength-resistance of the extensor muscle and improved the perception of quality of life in office workers.
