Abstract

In Latin America, the scientific associations of medical students have been carrying out activities in favor of promoting scientific culture from the undergraduate level; In Colombia, the Association of Scientific Societies of Medical Students of Colombia (ASCEMCOL) has promoted student medical research and community outreach since its foundation in 1989. The scientific publication of medical students is deficient, as has been documented in other countries of the continent. This could be caused by factors such as the low research training in many medical schools in the country and the scant support for student societies. The scientific training opportunities offered by the student scientific societies include participation in scientific dissemination events, student scientific publication, virtual and face-to-face courses and training, and international exchange programs in research and clinical settings.
