Abstract
In the professional academic practice of the history of philosophy, it is commonplace to encounter interpretative paradigms that have made a career in the way of reading Antiquity. Some of these exegetical positions are sometimes unexpectedly even more famous than the thinkers to whom they were first applied. Copious examples could be given. However, the case that concerns me on the present occasion is a very interesting opportunity for a review in the light of the problems I have just described.
