The Aesthetic Dimension of Philosophical Work. The Proper Name and the Death of Author

What is personal in a written work? How much ownership do we have over it? Is the person who writes it also the one who represents it? These are some of the questions that this paper seeks to answer. It argues that every philosophical work possesses an insurmountable aesthetic dimension, ascribed to an impersonal status that constitutes its vital impulse or creative force and serves as its sine qua non. This intimate event is explored through the category of the proper name within contemporary French philosophy, particularly through reflections on the aesthetic dimension. In this regard, the reader will find an explanation of the modes or mechanisms through which the proper name is produced and how it emerges from the event of the author’s death, as confirmed by its configuration as an aesthetic dimension within the work.
