Abstract
The following article aims to discuss certain aspects of a recent Colombian controversy concerning Afro-Colombian communities. The starting points is a presentation of the experiences and political expressions of black populations in Colombia, Bolivia and Cuba that are similar but different as well and could not be approached and analyzed by a single theoretical or interpretative framework but require a special treatment within the contexts they emerged. It is for this reason that the article calls for openness towards diversity trying to analyze the black political expressions in its own terms and conditions understanding the differences as distinctive answers of common problems.
