Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the republican and monarchical celebrations during the period of Independence in the provinces of Santa Marta and Cartagena, analyzing the ruptures and continuities in the way these ceremonies were developed. Thus, we can see the influence of these events in an environment marked by war, economic crisis and the political tension. But even beyond this series of difficulties, it was clear the desire of the authorities to carry out their rituals and celebrations in order to legitimize and achieve consensus on their political projects.
