Abstract

Introduction: HPV is the main cause of cervical cancer and despite the inclusion of the HPV vaccine in vaccination schedules, there are still barriers that limit its demand.

Objective: Analyze the sociological factors that reduce the demand for the HPV vaccine in Latin America and generate recommendations.

Methods: An information search was carried out in the Google Scholar, PubMed, Scielo, and Redalyc databases. Specific formulas were used for each database and extended among retrieved articles that were published between 2013 and 2022. Results: Forty-two published articles were selected, where it is evident that information about the vaccine reaches parents through the media and the school, the demand is associated with trust in health personnel, economic level, level of knowledg, and concerns about adverse effects.

Conclusion: The demand for the vaccine against the HPV virus is led by the support of parents towards vaccination, that is, its correct dissemination by the media, the elimination of beliefs in talks, the support of health personnel in the primary care and economic access to the vaccine are the key points to work on to minimize the perception of risk and expand its coverage.
