Abstract

Randomized controlled trials are the reference standard for studying the effects of an intervention on a population of interest, whether in terms of effectiveness or safety. Hence, it is essential that clinicians know in detail the appropriate interpretation of the magnitude estimators. This contributes to the implementation of evidence-based preventive and/or therapeutic strategies. In this article, aspects addressed in the review titled “From the RR of the ECG to the RR of the RCT: an approach to the results of the RCT for non-epidemiologist clinicians” published in 2004 are updated, and the concepts of other estimators that can also be used to show results of interventions are described.
