Abstract

Background. The vision of the family physician in the quality of care for chronic kidney disease (CKD) is essential. The identification of strengths and critical points will allow the development of improvements in favor of patients.

Objective. To explore the quality perspectives of the family doctor in the management of chronic kidney disease in a first level unit in Tabasco, Mexico.

Material and methods. Qualitative research under the interpretive approach carried out in two focus groups (12 family physicians in direct care of patients with CKD), as a methodological framework the Donabedian Model was used: Structure, Process and Results, and in the data analysis it was used MAXQDA version 2020 software.

Results. Family physician identified a lack of material and equipment for care and essential drugs for patients, inaccessibility to laboratory tests, insufficient human resources, lack of evaluation and supervision, separation from the second level, detachment from treatment, low co-responsibility of the patient and no family support.

Conclusion. Exploring the perspectives of family physician made it possible to identify deficiencies that, if well treated, become priority areas of opportunity for the continuous improvement of health services.
