Abstract

The purpose of this study was to understand the level of labor stress and the perception of the health condition, of the nursing team of psychiatry units from a high complexity hospital from Chile, theoretically supported by Betty Neuman's system model.

This research presented a non-experimental, transactional, correlational quantitative design. Eighty-eight health providers of the nursing team from the groups mentioned above were censed. In terms of data collection, three instruments were used: "Personal and employment Background", "General Health Questionnaire of 12 Questions (GHQ-12)" and "Cooper Psychosomatic Stress Symptoms Questionnaire (CSPS)", which aimed to collect sociodemographic data and symptoms related to workload.

Among the results obtained it stands out that in relation to the GHQ-12 questionnaire, a 28.4% of the staff have a high level of labor stress, instead, the CSPS reveals that 51.1% also have a high level of stress.

It is concluded that those participants who perceive a good health condition have a low level of labor stress, while individuals who perceive a regular health condition have a high level of labor stress. Similarly, participants who present between 4 and 6 medical leaves exhibit a high level of labor stress and individuals who do not present medical leaves, exhibit a low level of stress.
