Abstract

Objective: To evaluate parents' perception of nursing care during their children's hospitalization.

Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The scale of evaluation of the perception of the humanized care provided by the nursing professional was applied (Cronbach's alpha 0.945). The data were collected in the second period of the year 2022.

Results: The average age of the children of the parents who participated was 35 months, which corresponds to early childhood; 76 % had a hospitalization not > 5 days; 52 % have their residence in Cundinamarca and 66 % of the diagnosis corresponded to respiratory infections; in the detailed analysis by each of the dimensions, when contrasting the scores obtained in the global scale, 68 % of the participants perceive non-humanized care. In the analysis, an association was found between parents of children under 3 years of age who perceive that the care provided by nursing is humanized (p<0.05).

Conclusions: According to the evaluation scale the perception of parents during the care provided by the nursing professional during the hospitalization of their children is non-humanized or unacceptable care, where the main weaknesses were found in the dimensions of nursing professional - patient relationship and teaching - learning.
