Abstract

This article shows the results of a research carried out on 37 people displaced by violence and who has settled in a Colombian village. This study was a descriptive - comparative one and used research qualitative techniques such as semi structured interviews and focal groups. The find ings are very important because they validate the hypothesis that in spite of violence conditions, the "social capital", understood as the reciprocity and trust ruling social relations among community members through re ciprocal interchanges and trusty behaviors among displaced people-, has eased the overcoming of social problems such as lack of electrical energy and the supply of drinking water, economical problems such as lack of money and work, and psychological problems such as fear and pain re lated to past. The social capital which has been generated, though has not ended poverty, has allowed the fair use of resources and the daily suste nance, besides the achievement of individual and collective goals within the displaced community which is living in Puerto Colombia village.
