Social Representations of People with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Neiva (Colombia)
Abstract
The general objective of this article is to evaluate, from an ethnographic approach, the social representations (SR) of people living with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) in the municipality of Neiva (Colombia) in 2020. To achieve this, 50 people, with sociodemographic characteristics of gender, ages, studies, and socioeconomic strata were interviewed. The social representations found among people living with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the municipality of Neiva (Colombia) in 2019 were: sugar, anguish, changes, care, illness, inheritance, death, and sadness. The results of this study will be used by professionals in the health sector who work with people with DM2 to evaluate their perceptions and ensure greater effectiveness in interventions.
