Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this article is to identify the evolution and trends in non-pharmacological interventions to support the development of children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Materials and methods: A bibliometric analysis was conducted using the Web of Science and Scopus databases, reviewing a total of 1759 articles from 1964 to the date of the study. The Rayyan tool was used for bibliographic analysis and the JAMOVI software for identifying patterns and temporal changes.

Results: A linear increase in publications over the last 60 years was identified, with a significant rise since 2000. This trend highlights the introduction of therapies and interventions, focusing on improving social skills, communication, and social interaction. The most frequently mentioned comorbidity is anxiety, and the most relevant therapy is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, with a growing interest in topics related to the well-being and quality of life of individuals with ASD and their families. The United States and the United Kingdom are the leading countries in publications.

Conclusions: It is observed that the increase in articles and themes in non-pharmacological interventions to support the development of children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder marks a growing interest of the scientific community in diversifying approaches and methods of treatment to back up this population.
