This research describes the characteristics of the internal dynamics in 100 families that live with people older than sixty, pensioners of the Social Security Institute (SSI) in the city Barranquilla. Data were collected through questionnaires validated by means of piloting and peer evaluation. The instruments were applied to families from socio-economic strata 1 y 2. The internal dynamics is described as a function of five variables: structure, affective relationships, communication, limits, and hierarchy. Dynamics were compared regarding to sex age, handicapped conditions and marital status of elders, the proprietor of the Housing, and the relationship between the older and his her family. The dynamics in the study were found to have a good quality level in the affective relationship and in the communication. It was found an inter dependence between these variables and their influence in the models of family-elder interaction. The most favorable dynamics was found in younger old people, less physically handicapped and married ones. It was not found a direct relationship between kinship and the dynamics. However, it exists a direct one between dynamics and propiertor. It is likely that the latter meaning fully impacts on the internal dynamics found in the research.
